Environmental Scientist Intern

We are looking for individuals with at least 2 years of undergraduate coursework in environmental science, civil, or environmental engineering. Responsibilities include assisting with environmental sampling, field observations, and data collection (surface water, stormwater, groundwater, wastewater, soils, and sediments). You will support data management and analysis, perform instrument maintenance, and assist in project administration (report writing, proposal drafting, and progress tracking). Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail are required. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and experience with ESRI ArcGIS is a plus.



    Critical Tasks and Responsibilities
    • Assist environmental sampling, testing, and observations (primarily surface water, stormwater, groundwater, wastewater, along with soils and sediments)
    • Assist field observations and perform data measurement and collection assignments
    • Data management and analysis (compilation, manipulation, and evaluation of data)
    • Perform maintenance and calibration of environmental monitoring instruments, meters, probes, and automated sampling equipment
    • Assisting technical staff with various project tasks, including researching, compiling and evaluating project data, data entry, preparing reports and performing calculations.
    • Assisting in project administration including writing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports.
    • Performing research and contacting vendors/agencies for information
    Required Competencies and Qualifications
    • Completed at least 2 years of undergraduate coursework at an accredited college or university towards pursuing a degree in environmental science, or other related science field of study; or civil or environmental engineering or related engineering field of study.
    • Familiarity with spreadsheets and data management (i.e. Microsoft Excel, etc.)
    • Ability to pay attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
    • Good interpersonal abilities for working in a team environment.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervision.
    • Proactive approach/self-starter/takes initiative

    • Ability to kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Valid California driver’s license and insurable driving record
    Desired Competencies and Qualifications
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, etc.).
    • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro/ArcGIS Online
    • Ability to grasp and become proficient in new software and technologies
