This project was featured by CE News magazine in a Stormwater Management Trends article as well as the Southern California Low-Impact Development (LID) Technical Guidance and Site Planning Strategies Manual as an example project. CWE prepared civil engineering plans and specifications for a commercial development in Downey, California. Design plans included grading and drainage plans, erosion control plans, pavement design plans, and a Standard Urban Stormwater Mitigation Plan (SUSMP). CWE designed perimeter sidewalks, completed an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Plan, and developed an innovative and sustainable grading and drainage design to meet the local jurisdiction’s permitting requirements. Design elements included interlocking paver stones throughout the parking lot with the capacity to retain and infiltrate stormwater runoff from a 10-year storm event using the void spaces in the parking lot’s subgrade. This green solution also provided an aesthetically pleasing site feature and significantly reduced the project site’s total impervious area footprint while providing the required HS-20 loading.
