LOS ANGELES COUNTY GENERAL HOSPITAL DESIGN-BUILD WELLNESS CENTER

The former Los Angeles County General Hospital in Boyle Heights became virtually vacant after the opening of a replacement hospital next door. In 2013, the Art Deco landmark was given new life by the opening of the Wellness Center, which is designed to be a “one-stop shop” for comprehensive preventative and connected medical and mental health services for the underserved Los Angeles County population.

CWE prepared design plans for the Wellness Center, which included an outdoor park and fitness area. Project features included: a free-standing catwalk/bridge, Low Impact Development (LID) planters, a splash pad and basketball court, two Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps, gates and fencing, a gazebo, a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) screen for the proposed Tot Area, and shade structures.
